DEPUTY CHINESE AMBASSADOR VISITS UNIMAK

Students and staff of the University of Makeni welcomed a delegation from the Chinese Embassy in Sierra Leone. Vice Chancellor Professor Joseph Turay officially welcomed the team from the Embassy. Professor Turay said the Chinese embassy has contributed a lot in building the capacity of UNIMAK staff. “We want to thank you for your contribution to our human resource development, “ he said.

The team visited the campus on the 24th of November 2022. This is the first time a Chinese delegation headed by the deputy Chinese Ambassador is visiting the university of Makeni.

Ambassador Li Xiaoyong addressed over 1000 students from 19 departments of the University at the recently concluded 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and its importance in the world .” One of the high light of the congress focuses on Chinese modernization of the huge population for common prosperity of all “he said.

Ambassador Li emphasized that this Chinese modernization makes provision for new opportunities for African countries and strengthened China Sierra Leone’s friendship. “China’s peaceful development will enhance the steady and long-term development of China-Sierra Leone cooperation, “ he said.

He ended by encouraging UNIMAK students to study hard in order to make a meaningful contribution to a better Sierra Leone. In an interview with Mass Communication year, 3 student Demba Kamara appreciated the presence of the Chinese team led by the Deputy Ambassador. “Today I learned a lot from the Chinese Deputy Ambassador and team. We all should play a role in maintaining the bilateral cooperation between Sierra Leone and China “he said.

Mr. Demba said they will work hard as students to contribute to the development and growth of Sierra Leone China Friendship. Many students also suggested that such sessions be held regularly in order to interface with the Chinese embassy.
