Sierra Leone Debating Council is among organizations that is geared towards salvaging numerous challenges face by young people, especially students and to help contribute for the common good through advocacy.
The debate was held on the 25th and 26th November 2022 in Njala University. This is an another milestone for the students of the UNIMAK to exhibit its functions. This is the 6th National inter-collegiate Debating Championship hosted at Njala University Mokonde Campus. All walks of life were present to grace the occasion.
The event gathered nine tertiary institutions with the central idea on National Security, Climate Change, Civic Education and National Cohesion.
Following were the topics: ‘ Political Parties are Responsible for the Youths to be Violent in Election, Citizens are Responsible for Land Degradation, Proportional Representation is more preferable to the Counter Part.
After exhaustive analysis of the motions from various institutions, University of Makeni (UniMak) emerged the the winner with their heavy weight speakers- Halima Koroma and Alusine *Kargbo as best speakers Fourah Bay College (F. B. C) secured second position with second best Orator.
According to other school of thoughts, this year’s victory is exceptional for the university by winning two major positions; best Orator and best institution. As it’s, University of Makeni (UniMak) has won the debate three consecutive times, which is now posing threat to other institutions nationally.
This trophy has placed the university to be the champion of debates in the country.
The current President for University of Makeni Debating Council Princess Magdalene Momoh was very much elated to bring victory home as first competition being conducted under her hegemony. She sent a gratitude to all Unimak students for their relentless supports especially those who were with them as technical team.
