UNIMAK participated in the National Social Work Conference.

Staff and students of the Social Work Department participated in this year’s Social Work Conference. This is the first time the University of Makeni is sending representatives to the National Conference.

The National Social Work Conference was organized by the Sierra Leone Social Workers steering committee in partnership with the  Government of Sierra Leone and UNICEF Sierra Leone.

All six universities were represented in the  2 days conference. All these universities offer Social Work at the undergraduate level. The conference started on the 21st and ends on the 22nd of March 2023.

This was the first conference held in Sierra Leone.  The Minister of Social Welfare  BaIndu Dassama officially launched the  Social Works  Association on the 22nd of March 2023. The Association is comprised of Universities offering Social Work.

UNIMAK  Social Work Head of Department  Gerard Alex Sesay said his participation in the conference would open up more partnerships and collaborations that would foster Social work at community, national and International levels.  He said the aim of the conference is to look into the successes of the profession.  He appreciated all stakeholders that contributed greatly to the growth of the profession.

    I really like this university may God continue to guide and protect all those that take care of the university, guide the students and guide the Roman Catholic mission
