University of Makeni Strengthens Doctoral Research Skills Through Short-Term Training

The University of Makeni (UniMak) is hosting a short-term course from the 10th to the 16th and 15th to 20th of September 2025, designed to equip PhD candidates from across the sub region and Sierra Leone with essential research proposal writing skills.
The ongoing intensive program is delivered in both frontal and virtual. The training covers critical topics, including the purpose of postgraduate education, identifying a research problem, formulating objectives, research questions, and hypotheses, and mastering quantitative methodologies for data collection and analysis.

The aim is to strengthen academic research capacity and support emerging scholars across the region.

Participants are expected to gain practical, hands-on experience in structuring a novel research proposal from the initial literature review to the final presentation of a methodological plan.

By focusing on the rigorous demands of quantitative and qualitative research, the course aims to empower students to produce high-quality, defensible proposals that meet international standards, thereby contributing to the growth of a robust research culture in West African academia.
