Bishop Koroma Calls for Unity and Renewal at Close of Three-Nation Catholic Conference

Bishop Bob John Hassan Koroma of the Makeni Diocese has called on the faithful to become “promoters of unity” and bridge-builders during his homily marking the end of the Week of Christian Unity and the ITCABIC conference. Speaking at Our Lady of Fatima Cathedral, the Bishop emphasized that the Word of God must take center stage to rearrange mindsets and dispel the “darkness of hatred” that causes division. He reminded parishioners that there is only one Jesus Christ with no rival, and urged families to own and read the Bible together to experience a “renewed Pentecost” of love and reconciliation within their homes and communities.
The Apostolic Nuncio and bishops attended the Mass, which concluded a weeklong conference from January 18th to 25th, 2026, in Sierra Leone, Liberia, and The Gambia. A primary focus of the gathering was a landmark proposal to merge the Catholic structures of these three nations to better coordinate their saving mission. Bishop Koroma noted that while God’s Word provides comfort and discipline in times of danger, it also serves as a guide to bring associations and countries out of gloom. The event closed with a powerful call for attentive listening to God’s voice to ensure the successful spiritual and structural integration of the region.
