Ten Years After Ebola: UNIMAK Renews Vigilance with Outbreak Simulation

Makeni, Sierra Leone

In a powerful demonstration of continuous vigilance and preparedness, the University of Makeni (UNIMAK) hosted a critical Ebola outbreak simulation on Thursday, November 27, 2025, marking the 10th anniversary of the end of the devastating epidemic in Sierra Leone. The full-scale exercise, held at the UNIMAK Auditorium, brought together key figures, including University Vice Chancellor Professor Joseph Turay, alongside numerous local and visiting stakeholders, notably representatives from Kings College in Freetown, to test and reinforce the country’s rapid-response health protocols against future public health threats. The simulation underscored UNIMAK’s ongoing commitment to leveraging its academic and research capabilities, including the legacy of its Ebola response efforts, to strengthen national resilience and foster cross-institutional cooperation in health security.
