UNIMAK starts Health Walk: Vice Chancellor Leads Fitness Drive for Staff Fitness

Makeni, November 15, 2025

The University of Makeni (UNIMAK) successfully started its first-ever health walk on Saturday 15th November 2025, marking a major institutional effort to prioritize staff health and fitness at the beginning of the new academic semester. The event drew a massive turnout, demonstrating the university community’s commitment to wellness.
Professor Joseph Turay, the Vice-Chancellor, who championed the initiative from the front, personally led the health walk. Staff and faculty members gathered early at the Fatima Campus before proceeding on the spirited walk to the Makeni Wusum Field.
The HR Director, Madam Veronica Kamara, expressed her profound satisfaction with the participation levels. “I am immensely proud and applaud our staff for the massive turnout for this health walk,” Madam Kamara stated. “This initiative is critical to fostering a healthy, energetic workforce, which is the foundation of academic excellence. We aim to make wellness a continuous commitment at UNIMAK, not just a one-off event,” she said.
Professor Turay emphasized the broader significance of the event, linking physical health directly to institutional performance. “As we commence a new semester, we must recognize that a sound mind requires a sound body. “Leading this walk from Fatima Campus to the Wusum Field is a symbolic step toward a healthier, more productive, and more united university community,” he concluded.
The event successfully blended fitness with fellowship, setting a positive and active tone for the upcoming semester. UNIMAK leadership plans to integrate this health walk into the university’s official calendar, reinforcing the long-term goal of enhancing the overall well-being of its employees.
