University of Makeni Inaugurates New Governing Council for 2026–2029 Term

The University of Makeni officially inaugurated its newly constituted Governing Council on Saturday, February 28, 2026, during a formal ceremony held at the Staff Room of its Fatima Campus. The event signaled a renewed commitment to strengthening institutional governance and strategic leadership for the next three years.

Vice Chancellor Joseph Turay introduced the incoming council members, underscoring the critical role they will play in shaping the university’s future. He emphasized the importance of dedication, accountability, and collaborative leadership as the council embarks on its 2026–2029 mandate. According to Professor Turay, effective governance is central to maintaining academic excellence, operational efficiency, and sustainable institutional growth.

In his address, Chancellor Bob John H. Koroma warmly welcomed the council members, extending a message of peace and reflection in observance of the Lenten season. He highlighted that the council’s primary responsibility is to provide prudent oversight and strategic guidance that aligns with the university’s mission and values.

The Chancellor further urged members to uphold integrity, transparency, and ethical leadership in all deliberations.
