On Friday, January 16, 2026, the University of Makeni (UNIMAK) officially welcomed a CapaCare delegation to the Fatima Campus to establish a partnership that aims to transform healthcare delivery in Sierra Leone. Vice Chancellor Professor Joseph Turay and Director of Academic Affairs Fr. George Gbamanja hosted the team, which included CaoaCare Assistant Country Director Hannah Ashley and CapaCare Instructor Professor Marco, underscoring the essential role of local and international collaboration.“ As UNIMAK continues to see steady enrollment of over 7,000 students, with a robust Public Health department with a steady growth in MPH enrolment,” Professor Turay said. CapaCare Assistant Country Director Hannah Ashley said the focus is on activities such as building surgical capacity and advancing health equity in Sierra Leone. “CapaCare has been active on Masanga since 2011, with emphasis that the future of Sierra Leonean healthcare lies in evidence-based training led by local professionals, ensuring the next generation of medical experts is equipped to provide high-quality care nationwide,” Ashley said.
