SUCCEED Sierra Leone participated in an Awareness Raising Campaign in Freetown’s Western Rural area on Tuesday, September 10th, 2024.
The campaign was conducted in collaboration with the Sierra Leone Mental Health Coalition’s SUCCEED intervention staffs. Together, they reached out to communities across the Western Rural area, including the busy business Tombo junction in Waterloo.
During the campaign, the team shared information about SUCCEED Sierra Leone’s work, advocating on behalf of people with psychosis via preaching against stigma and promoting inclusion.
The team engaged with many people on the streets, with significant attention and interest shown by the public. Uptake Manager Andrew Sesay commented, “We are so impressed with the level of engagement in each catchment community we visited.”
Program Manager Veronica Kamara, who was part of the SUCCEED team observing the street-to-street and community awareness sessions, added, “Reaching out to so many people is truly inspiring.” Vishna Shah, from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and other SUCCEED staffs were part of the team to observe this community event. Overall The team described the day as a successful and rewarding experience.
