During a high-level evaluation meeting held at Fatima Campus on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, stakeholders from University of Makeni, SEND Sierra Leone, and the Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs celebrated the transformative impact of the gender-focused BRAVE Project.
FSU Regional Coordinator Frances Kargbo commended the university for recording zero reported cases of gender-based violence during her tenure. Meanwhile, HR representative John Koroma highlighted the introduction of a mandatory safeguarding policy, which all staff members are required to sign to help ensure student safety.
By empowering peer educators across the Yoni and Fatima campuses—with plans to expand the initiative to Lunsar—the project has successfully evolved from a policy-driven framework into a student-led culture of safety. The initiative continues to address bullying and harassment while promoting a sustainable and secure academic environment for students.
