The University of Makeni (UNIMAK) marked a significant academic milestone on Saturday, March 7th, 2026, as students gathered at the Fatima Campus for the annual graduation ceremony. A total of 884 students successfully graduated this year, celebrating the culmination of years of dedication, resilience, and hard work.
Addressing the gathering, the Chancellor, Most Rev. Dr. Bob John H. Koroma, described the occasion as a proud achievement not only for the graduates but also for the institution and the families who supported them throughout their academic journey. He emphasized that the success of the day belongs to every degree, diploma, and certificate recipient, as well as to the communities that stood behind them. In his inspiring message, the Chancellor encouraged the new alumni to embrace a lifelong commitment to “learning, unlearning, and relearning” as they advance in their professional and personal lives.
Adding to the celebratory atmosphere, Vice Chancellor Professor Joseph Turay reminded graduates that education carries a responsibility beyond individual success. He highlighted that the knowledge, skills, and values acquired during their studies are essential tools for driving sustainable development and national progress. Professor Turay challenged the Class of 2026 to use their qualifications to contribute meaningfully to society and to help build what he described as a “civilization of love.”
The ceremony concluded on a hopeful and forward-looking note, as graduates prepared to apply their academic training to the challenges and opportunities facing Sierra Leone and the wider global community.
