SUCCEED Sierra Leone Intervention Hailed as “Game Changer” During Visit to Psychiatric Hospital

​On December 30, 2025, SUCCEED Sierra Leone Program Manager Veronica Kamara and Principal Investigator Dr. Rebecca Esliker paid a visit to the Sierra Leone Psychiatric Teaching Hospital in Freetown to express gratitude for support during intervention and transition of participants into independent self-help groups. During the visit, the team expressed appreciation to the hospital’s administration for their steadfast support and partnership while requesting continued institutional support to ensure the sustainability of these community-led groups. In response, the Hospital Registrar, Dr. Elisabeth Alieu, described the SUCCEED project as a “game changer” for the Sierra Leone mental health landscape and provided firm assurances that the hospital would remain a pillar of support for the Self Help groups as they move toward long-term recovery and social integration.
